Tetsunosuke Ichimura has always been unhappy about his short stature. After he witnesses his parents' murder at the hands of a Choushuu assassin, he vows with all his heart to one day become strong enough to avenge them. It is now 1864, the first year of Genji. Tetsunosuke, now 15 (though he is often mistaken for a small child!!), travels to the headquarters of the powerful army Shinsengumi along with his older brother Tatsunosuke, looking to join the historical group and fulfill his dreams of becoming a stronger and heavily skilled fighter. Little does he realize the price he will be asked to pay--for in order to join this army, one must forego his humanity and become a demon...
